Art Deco and early Modern trim — running from roughly 1925 through the mid-1960s — broke decisively with everything that preceded it, replacing layered classical mouldings with stepped geometric profiles, flat planes, and clean reveals. The vocabulary is graphic and architectural: stepped crowns, plain rectangular casings, deep flat baseboards, and the occasional fluted or grooved accent that nods to the era’s industrial design. Purple Heart Rough Lumber
Purpleheart wood is a deep purple-violet when freshly cut, maturing to a dark brown. and has a medium texture with good natural luster. The original color is restored when re-cut. Purpleheart is rated as being very durable, and resists both decay and most insect attacks, though it has been reported to be susceptible to attack from marine borers.
Common uses for purpleheart lumber include inlays and accent pieces, flooring, furniture, boatbuilding, heavy construction, and a variety of specialty wood items.
