Both protect and define a building’s exterior, but “siding” typically refers to materials used on residential homes, while “cladding” is the broader architectural term used for commercial or custom applications. At Mason’s Mill & Lumber, we supply both—custom-milled to suit your project’s design and performance requirements.
Yes. Our in-house mill can match or reproduce nearly any profile from drawings or samples. Whether you need shiplap, tongue-and-groove, channel, or modern rainscreen cladding, we can produce precise dimensions, edge details, and finishes for a perfect fit.
We recommend durable, stable materials that can handle heat, humidity, and UV exposure—such as Thermory® thermally modified wood, Accoya® acetylated wood, or Modern Mill ACRE™ composite. Each performs exceptionally well in harsh environments while maintaining its appearance for decades.
A rainscreen system creates an air gap between the siding and the building envelope, allowing trapped moisture to escape. This design helps prevent rot, mold, and warping, while improving energy efficiency. Many of our products are ideal for rainscreen installation.

A rainscreen system is a modern cladding design that includes a small ventilation cavity between the cladding boards and the wall sheathing. This gap allows moisture to drain and air to circulate, protecting the structure from trapped humidity and water damage.
Benefits include:
Longer material lifespan and reduced maintenance
Improved building envelope performance
Better indoor air quality through moisture control
Compatibility with vertical and horizontal installations
At Mason’s Mill, our materials like Accoya®, Thermory®, and Modern Mill ACRE™ are ideal for rainscreen applications, combining dimensional stability with resistance to rot and decay.
