Craftsman moulding is restrained and rectilinear — flat-stock casings with simple back-band trim, wide picture rails, plate rails, deep door headers, and beam-style ceiling trim meant to be read clearly from across the room. Poplar is among the most economical and inexpensive of all domestic hardwoods and is typically used for paint grade materials. The sapwood is creamy white and may be streaked, with the heartwood varying from pale yellowish brown to olive green.
