The Craftsman and Arts & Crafts movement reshaped American homes from roughly 1900 to 1930, rejecting Victorian ornament in favor of honest joinery, exposed structure, and quiet horizontal lines. Purple Heart Rough Lumber
Purpleheart wood is a deep purple-violet when freshly cut, maturing to a dark brown. and has a medium texture with good natural luster. The original color is restored when re-cut. Purpleheart is rated as being very durable, and resists both decay and most insect attacks, though it has been reported to be susceptible to attack from marine borers.
Common uses for purpleheart lumber include inlays and accent pieces, flooring, furniture, boatbuilding, heavy construction, and a variety of specialty wood items.
