Timeless Warmth. Natural Beauty. Built to Last.
When form meets function in a setting as serene as Houston Oaks Country Club, material choice matters. For this standout deck and pool island project, Thermory Ash was selected for its durability, natural beauty, and eco-conscious profile. Modified using only heat and steam—without the use of chemicals—Thermory is known for its stability and resistance to the elements, making it an ideal choice for high-traffic outdoor spaces.
At the heart of this build is a spacious Thermory Ash deck that thoughtfully wraps around existing trees. The wood frames each trunk with intention, creating a tranquil space where members can relax, reflect, and connect with nature. Though the layout was guided by the owners’ vision, the use of Thermory helps unify the space with clean lines and warm tones. Over time, the ash boards will begin their natural aging process, shifting to a soft silver-gray patina. Some light surface checking is also expected—adding to the character—without compromising the material’s performance.
Just off the deck, a matching Thermory Ash pool island provides a multifunctional space: a landing pad for swimmers and a raised station for lifeguards to oversee the pool. This small island is built for both form and function. Thanks to Thermory’s rot resistance and non-toxic durability, the wood holds up beautifully in wet, high-use environments. As sunlight and weather begin to take effect, the island will develop the same graceful aging seen across the deck—subtle silver hues that blend into the landscape.
