This pecky cypress from Louisiana, gets it’s characteristic look from a condition caused by a fungal attack that causes long, narrow burrows or cavities in the wood. The fungus primarily attacks older cypress trees from the “canopy” or “umbrella” down. Once the tree is cut down, or harvested, the fungal attack stops, leaving the beautiful, unique pecky patterns.
