Hardwood is one of the most important design and performance decisions on any project. Our hardwood samples let you review real boards in person so you can compare color, grain pattern, texture, and character grades before you commit to full rough lumber, surfaced boards, flooring, or millwork runs.
Since 1989, Mason’s Mill & Lumber has supplied high-quality hardwoods to cabinet shops, millwork houses, builders, and homeowners from our Houston facility. Ordering hardwood samples through our online shop gives you a practical way to see species in real light, match them to existing finishes, and talk through options with your team before finalizing a specification.

A hardwood sample is a physical piece of lumber—often a short length or offcut—intended for review and selection only. It is meant to show the species’ typical color, grain, and character so you can choose the right hardwood for your project; it is not sold as usable project stock on its own.
Hardwood samples are useful for cabinet shops, millwork houses, furniture makers, builders, designers, and homeowners who want to compare species and finishes in person before committing to full orders.
No. As noted on our sample pages, sample orders cannot be cancelled or returned, because each order is prepared specifically to support your material-selection process and is not restocked as standard inventory.
Non-stock profile samples will not be species-specific. If you require a particular species in a particular profile—such as a custom casing, base, or stair part—contact Mason’s Mill sales for a quote and lead time before ordering so we can set expectations and, if possible, provide an appropriate sample.
